How Stress Can Affect Your Energy

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

Stress impacts energy levels of our bodies. Many people feel tired and stressed simultaneously. We have all types of stress including physical, financial, and mental. Stress expectedly responds to life’s difficulties and leads our body to discharge hormones that create protective responses to make it ready to respond effectively and fast.

Stress Related Exhaustion

How Stress-Related Exhaustion Impacts Your Energy Levels

Energy levels, chronic stress, and low mood are associated with one another. They can highly impact your regular activities. Prolonged stress reduces our energy levels leading to emotional and physical exhaustion. As a result, it badly impacts our mood. You may encounter depression, anxiety, a feeling of despair, lack of motivation, and irritability.

In case you are having physical exhaustion, it may be tough to finish your exercise or get motivated to work out. You may have issues carrying your groceries, walking upstairs, or even walking on the street. And if you experience mental exhaustion, you may find it difficult to even get out of your bed in the morning. Moreover, it can lead to concentration issues, extreme sleepiness, and difficulties in completing a task. Hence, this makes it difficult for you to fulfill your personal objectives.

Stress-related exhaustion can contribute to other health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Hence, you should never ignore it.

Things to Do If Stress Causes Exhaustion and Impacts Your Energy Levels

If you notice changes in your energy levels, you should first consult the primary care physician. This makes sure whether your issues have been triggered by an extreme health condition. After excluding a hidden health condition, addressing and reducing the sources of stress can be the best method to deal with your mood and boost exhaustion.

However, this takes months and often, the sources of stress are not under our control. If you have no solution and there is a possibility of constant stress, identify how you react to the stress that makes you physically and emotionally fatigued. Here are some tips to manage your mental health:

1. Create Social Connections

Getting disconnected from others does not just create exhaustion but also increases depression. Your connections with others are your source of strength. These help you feel more satisfied and engaged with life. However, it’s not about the number of connections you make but how your connections bring positivity and happiness to your life.

2. Look for Mental Support

Talk to reliable relatives, co-workers, or friends whenever you feel stressed or low. Their advice and support could help you deal with your stress.

3. Take Care of Yourself

Taking care of your physical and emotional health is similarly vital. Get regular workouts, follow a balanced diet, and get an ample amount of sleep. Do things that make you happy. Spend some time with books, music, family, and the garden. Feel free to take your ‘Me Time’ if you need it.
